EdX is one of the more unique education apps. Instead of offering courses from professionals, it offers courses from actual colleges. You won’t get a legitimate college degree out of them. However, there are courses in computer programming, engineering, history, psychology, nutrition, statistics, and hundreds of others. It features online or offline video lectures, course announcements and handouts, and various tutorials. All of it is completely free. Anyone looking for higher education should have this app right now.


Google Play Books

Google Play Books has come a long way since it first came out. Now it’s one of the best education apps out there. The subject matter that you can purchase ranges from fantasy and fiction to non-fiction, comics, and virtually any other genre. There is also a wide selection of educational books, text books, guidebooks, and other literature of educational value. Prices are generally on par with other ebook platforms. However, it’s not the only ebook platform available. Those who don’t like Google Play Books can also try Amazon Kindle or Barnes & Noble Nook.


Khan Academy

Khan Academy is another education platform. It offers a variety of courses and and classes to people. It currently boasts over 10,000 instructional videos, classes, and other content. It’s all completely free as well. Khan Academy deals with more typical education, such as mathematics, economics, history, science, and more. They also have an app specifically for kids that has many of the same features. It’s definitely one of the better free education apps.

Quizlet is arguably the best flashcards app out there. You can use it for virtually any topic. You can practice terms for your class, memorize vocabulary terms, and more. It also includes foreign language support, images and audio, and you can share flashcards with friends. The free version gives you a limited number of flashcard sets to use. The pro version remPLAY all of the limitations. is another excellent flashcard app.

Socratic is an excellent educational app. It lets you take photos of various things and tells you about them. You can take a photo of a math problem, a history qustion, a chemistry formula, or whatever else. The app then tries to answer the question and also show you how to answer it again in the future. It covers about half a dozen subjects. The app is also completely free with no ads or in-app purchases. We recommend this one to just about everybody, but especially for high school kids and younger.
